Dissidia Reviews: The Weapons Specialist

People really pitch a bitch about Firion. I always wondered why, until I played him. Then I was shocked and appalled. At them. Firion rocks. It truely takes a pair bigger than water-melons to say you “dream of a world filled with wild roses” and I like Firion just for that.

Shut up.

Gameplay

Firion is a ground attacker, and while he’s good at it, he can’t move a foot of the ground or he’ll use a homing elemental attack. Of course, what most people don’t realize is that you can flood the battlefield with fire bolts. I, naturally did, and so have turned him into an awesome fighter when he’s grounded, and have him flood the battlefield with fire magic when he’s in the air. A true freelancer. Onto his attacks, they focus on bringing the enemy closer while pummeling them with brave attacks. Awesome.

I have, however, noticed a repeating trend in HP attacks being worthless and unreliable. “Straightarrow”, what I’m currently stuck with, has no homing ability whatsoever. It sucks. Another tally on the score for “Auto Chase” abilities. We’re up to two now, and I hope you Space Monkies can keep track. That aside, Firion is probably one of my best characters ever. Do you Space Monkies know why?

Yep. Remember that Blood Sword? The overpowering weapon they took out a duplicate of because it kicked so much Demi-God ass? It makes a triumphant return here as a side effect of Firion’s EX Mode called “Blood Weapons”. Unfortunately, it still works on the same mechanics as the rest of the HP attacks. But it allows you to regenerate health equal to damage dealt. Also, it stacks with the EX Mode regeneration effect. Badass. Onto his EX Burst, “Fervid Blazer” is a bitch to pull off. You get a set of five buttons to press, and you have no time to do it in. It has a trick to it, which is that the first three are always on the D-Pad and the last two are action buttons. You Space Monkies would be surprised at how little that helped after what I said about “Oversoul”. I always get the Square and Circle buttons confused even though I never do that outside “Fervid Blazer”. But, there is a cure. I like to call it, “Auto EX Command”. It basically inputs your commands for you, usually perfectly, but it sometimes fails. But it only fails on one if it does, so the computer still beats me out. It comes with some little piece of shit called “Auto EX Burst” which automatically does your burst when you land an HP attack. It’s worthless since I’m already usually mashing the Square button because HP attacks are inaccurate.

I like Firion, even if no-one else does. But now we come to my most hated character… Next time! Same Taoville time? Same Taoville channel! Hasta la See-You-Later!
