Dissidia Reviews: The Mystic Fencer
Onion Knight is a horrible character. Not only is he completely aggravating and makes me wish I could turn off the gorram voices (or at the very least, his), but his personality is so full of it I wanted to puke. Who the hell does he think he is, trying to protect Terra! Is he trying to pull some moves on her? Little punk’s going down for that. Terra’s mine! Hear that?!
Okay. I’m done (for now).
Gameplay
Onion Brat is a freelancer. His abilities are equally physical and magical. But it’s worthless. Because if I wanted a fighter, I’d go play Sasuun. Sasuun is the nickname I gave to the Warrior of Light because the name “Warrior of Light” is a mouthful. And if I wanted a mage, I’d go play Terra. But everyone has some magical attacks excepting Tidus (who sucks) and Jecht (who doesn’t need it). And everyone has a distinctly better voice. All in all, Onion Breath can’t replace anybody, even Firion.
Dissidia Reviews: The Weapons Specialist
People really pitch a bitch about Firion. I always wondered why, until I played him. Then I was shocked and appalled. At them. Firion rocks. It truely takes a pair bigger than water-melons to say you “dream of a world filled with wild roses” and I like Firion just for that.
Shut up.
Gameplay
Firion is a ground attacker, and while he’s good at it, he can’t move a foot of the ground or he’ll use a homing elemental attack. Of course, what most people don’t realize is that you can flood the battlefield with fire bolts. I, naturally did, and so have turned him into an awesome fighter when he’s grounded, and have him flood the battlefield with fire magic when he’s in the air. A true freelancer. Onto his attacks, they focus on bringing the enemy closer while pummeling them with brave attacks. Awesome.
Dissidia Reviews: The Paragon
I like the Warrior of Light. He has fast movement, strong attacks and is all around badass. He’s kind of stuck up and emotionless, but what do you expect from a completely unoriginal character? I really can’t complain, because the Onion Brat is worse than him.
Gameplay
Warrior of Light kicks ass and takes names. He uses fast combos that initiate chase sequences (I love Auto Chase!) and beats em down to supreme breakage. He, does however, have his failing and it isn’t his lack of personality. His HP attacks can’t hit for crap. So whenever I enter his EX Mode, I have to enter it at the exact time that I use an attack I know will hit. That means, no regeneration. Not a problem if I can whoop them down without a Life Point lost, but hey, regenerating just to show how pathetic your opponents are is fun. Onto his EX Burst, which I had trouble with. Had being the key word there. It turns out that the final code you enter on the D-Pad (which I decided to use for movement over the lame joystick that I can’t reach.) is always left. Sounds pathetic, but you wouldn’t believe how much that pays off in the end. Thanks to hard practice and that piece of info I so graciously pass on to you, I can get his EX Burst right every time, unless I somehow go blind at the exact moment of execution.
Dissidia Final Fantasy
For my birthday I got Dissidia Final Fantasy. Which I love. The battle system is well thought out even if the story isn’t. So now I can hold (slightly unbalanced) grudge matches twixt Kefka and Sephiros. But I’ve decided that I have very unique strategems and ratings for each character. Which I will graciously give to all you Space Monkies. Starting with the heroes, ending with the villains and going in game order. I will hold a special addition for Shontatto and Gabranth when I unlock them. But first up, the Paragon!
War of the Lions!
For Christmas i got a PSP with Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. I love it. One of the things I’ve realized is that nostalgia means nothing to me. I like the newest version, mainly because by then, they’ve translated it right and ironed out all the bugs. The remake uses more Old English, but I’d rather that over cheating with bugs.
My PSP also came with Crisis Core, and while I like it, I’d much have rathered that all the energies gone into the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII have been diverted to a better game. And by “better game” I mean Final Fantasy VI. I honestly don’t get why everybody loves unstable heroes with small dick syndrome. Give me Terra, Cecil and even Squall or Firion any day.
Beat Final Fantasy VI
There’s a reason this is my favorite Final Fantasy. The plot is amazingly done and the graphics put Final Fantasy VII to shame. However, it has it’s drawbacks, mainly the fact that every character can master every spell given enough time. Also something annoying was that there were simply too many characters. I really could have done without Relm, Gau and Umaro. And the fact that there are too many characters means that in the World of Ruin, no characters really have special dialogue. Chrono Trigger had the right amount of characters so that they each had something to say about the situation, but Final Fantasy VI just has basically mute protaganists in the World of Ruin. This game had it’s overpowering insane superboss killers, in the form of “Celestriad – Soul of Thamasa – Quick – Ultima” and “Master’s Scroll – Black Belt – Fixed Dice / Valiant Knife” but it’s still fun. Why they aren’t remaking this with voice acting, 3-D and rocking sequels, I have no freakin clue, but this deserves a compiliation more than the under-overrated Final Fantasy VII.
Just completed Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy I was almost too easy. The so-called Superbosses in the optional dungeons posed a rare threat, and the final boss is laughable if you’ve beaten Omega and Shinryu. Certain game breaking spells come as early as 10 minutes into play. Certain items can cast spells, and even the two most powerful spells, Holy and Flare, are easily replaced by items costing no MP to use. Regardless, it’s enjoyable, even if all it is is another badge to display.
Final Fantasy Tactics
I just played FFT over at a friends house, and it has quickly risen to one of my top favorite games ever. Unfortunately, my friends house is three states away, so that’s not going to happen very often. Boo hoo.
Soo, you may be asking, is this just so you can have something new to read? Yes, yes it is.
Element Storm
So I cut it close, but my personal life is not on trial here. Moving on, I came up with a game, which I seem to do a lot. I call it Element Storm. Basically you control a summoner who can summon elementals. These elementals fight each other to kill the opposing summoner. The elementals can do extra damage to each other by means of a Rock, Paper, Scissors method. For example, Water will do double damage to Fire, while Fire will do double damage to Earth, which will be healed by Water. Putting in more elements adds complexity to the game, and I am experimenting with 5, 6 and 7 elements. More on Element Storm later.
