Dissidia Reviews: The Mystic Fencer

Onion Knight is a horrible character. Not only is he completely aggravating and makes me wish I could turn off the gorram voices (or at the very least, his), but his personality is so full of it I wanted to puke. Who the hell does he think he is, trying to protect Terra! Is he trying to pull some moves on her? Little punk’s going down for that. Terra’s mine! Hear that?!

Okay. I’m done (for now).

Gameplay
Onion Brat is a freelancer. His abilities are equally physical and magical. But it’s worthless. Because if I wanted a fighter, I’d go play Sasuun. Sasuun is the nickname I gave to the Warrior of Light because the name “Warrior of Light” is a mouthful. And if I wanted a mage, I’d go play Terra. But everyone has some magical attacks excepting Tidus (who sucks) and Jecht (who doesn’t need it). And everyone has a distinctly better voice. All in all, Onion Breath can’t replace anybody, even Firion.

Since you clicked on this, I bet you were expecting a rant. But. Onion Butt has “a” redeeming quality, and that is his EX Mode. His HP attacks now switch him twixt a Ninja and a Sage, best at attacking and spells in the original game. Quite obviously, physical attacks make him a Ninja, and magic makes him a Sage. Depending on which form he’s in when he starts his EX Burst it’s different. If he’s in the Ninja job, he has to hunt through a menu old-school-style to find a Shuriken to throw within an allotted time. If he’s a Sage, he has to hunt for Holy in the same menu.

Of course the time limit is bull crap and should have been applied to someone who has an Active-Time battle system instead of a Turn-Based system in their original game. Like Bartz. In fact, that would work really well for his EX Burst. Regardless, it’s the most imaginative EX Burst they made up. It’s probably on of the the hardest EX Bursts too. Every Final Fantasy player must have some memory of when they hunted for a spell, accidentally used Fira instead of Firaga and the boss who was about to be wiped out slaughters you all. Or casting some crap status inflicter the boss is immune to.

As an enemy, Onion Knight is always a surprise. Since quite obviously, you don’t know whether he’ll use magic or just attack you, or some twisted combination of both. Regardless, I wipe the floor with Not-Luneth just like everyone else.

I’ll probably put my review on Cecil up today, since I missed a day. Hasta La Smell-You-Later!
